I am Going to Switch to KDE for Just One Reason
I have been a Gnome user, and I really like simplicity, but it is becoming too simple
The Main Reason
I am using a 32" 4K monitor, and I don't have a plan to give it up because I like the screen setup and its real estate. Recently, I made my Linux system a primary and daily driver, so it deserves to be used by my monitor.
Unfortunately, Gnome has had issues with high-resolution monitors for ages, and it is still the same.
Texts are so small, and there are not so many options for scaling:
It is 100–200–300–400%. 100% is small, 200% too big for me. Do we have an option in between? No!
Either we need to use Gnome Tweaks and change the scaling factor (which scales the text only) or have binoculars to see the menus.
If you use complex methods in Terminal, you will end up with broken text render, which is not very fancy.
When I checked the KDE Plasma (not version 6 but version 5), there are many options for scaling:
When Fedora 40 is released as stable, I will definitely try KDE Plasma 6 with it and stick to it if the scaling and rendering are better than Gnome's.
BONUS: The Second Reason
I don't know who decided not to have system icons (or tray icons, however, we would like to call them) in Gnome, but s/he doesn't use Gnome in their daily life. Futuristic ideas are great when they match with the reality. I am not a big system icons user, but many applications require it (for example, Dropbox, 1Password, etc.)
I don't need to install Gnome Extensions to make it available.
They moved Desktop icons, which we tried to understand, but the system icons were too much.
